Style

Complex, aromatic, medium bodied with deceptive power, silky tannins and long-term ageing potential.

Season

Another cooler than average season with some influence from La Niña weather patterns. The season was cool to begin with, which meant a smaller crop formed at fruit set. Then it was a mild summer that warmed up toward the end, adding flavour and ripeness to the fresh acidity.

Vinification

Fruit is hand-picked and hand-sorted then fermented slowly and gently, keeping the delicacy and elegance of the fruit, but taking the time to extract all the flavour and tannin that we can. The wine goes into French oak barrels where it rests for about 8 months.

Bright medium-deep red-purple, youthful colour; the bouquet is spicy and cherry-like, very clean and clear varietally with a hint of whole-bunch, a really delicous fruit-sweet wine. Medium to full bodied in the Pinot spectrum; tannins very present but balanced and supple.

Light medium crimson. Attractive pure red and black cherry aromas with strawberry, herb, hint savoury notes. Lovely buoyant red fruited wine with ample strawberry, red cherry fruits, some herb hint sappy notes, very good mid palate viscosity and underlying vanilla notes. This is a shockingly good Pinot Noir that really delivers a punch. Its fruit driven, varietally expressive and primary in nature but it has lovely richness of flavour, whole bunch complexity and vinosity. Drink now – or keep for a while.

The 2022 release of Shaw + Smith Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir delivers all the pretty, delicate pristine red wild strawberries it’s known for but with added proportions of blackcurrant, fresh oregano, pink peppercorn and pomegranate. There is spice and funk, in a way that’s …well to be frank …a turn on. Like when you're on a great first date and are surprised to find out the person is bilingual! Tannins creep up slowly and though not taking the spotlight from the fruit, they continue to support and show it off to its full potential. This may be the most multidimensional Pinot Noir I’ve seen from this site and I’m locking in that second date now! Drink with wild mushroom risotto and a nonchalant but very deliberate curl of the hair.
